As I write it is Valentine’s Day, the day of love.
For some, they will receive the token chocolates, flowers, or dinner.
What about tomrrow though?
What if we chose to love people one day at a time? One moment at a time?
It has been several years, and I can’t tell you what I was upset about now, but I was not a happy camper with my husband. He was trying to cajole me, holding my hand as we walked inside to eat somewhere. “I love you,” he said “Do you love me?” To which I replied, “I love you…today.”
He looked at me with his eyebrows up. “Only today?” he asked.
“Yeah today, my bible says tomorrow will take care of itself.”
For weeks that one sentence played over and over in my head. I realized something really important.
What if we simply love people today? What if we could love them just long enough to pray? Let’s be honest. We all have those people who drive us up the wall, that person who is super needy, or who pushes our buttons?
Could we be more effective, in loving them, if we only focused on today?
Tomorrow will take care of itself. We will face what it brings when it arrives.
In the meantime, we will have extended love to someone in need. We will have shared Jesus and maybe we will have made a difference.
